Grandmother’s Head
Grandmother’s head sitting in a jar
Up on the mantle, nor very far
Watching me, watching you
Trying to see just what we do
She lived for us
And gave birth to our mother
Though she is dead
There can be no other
Where she went, we do not know
To this women, our life we owe
Now she lives through us
And we cannot fuss
As a cause, this is just
To preserve what we can is a must
Over the fire we watch her eyes
There can never be any goodbyes
