Reasons German Shepherds Make Best of Breed Personal Protection Dogs
A critical trait separates elite personal protection dogs from the rest of the breed

What sets dogs apart from each other — even elite, pure bloodline German Shepherds?
The German Shepherds who Michael Kempkes trained were used to protect fighter jets and high-ranking German officials. He has titled hundreds of elite German Shepherds and knows a vital difference between the dogs.
The breed shares many common traits:
Tracking scents
They have 225 million scent receptors — compared to 125 million for a Dachshund. They’re often referred to as a scent receptor powerhouse.
Enjoying Hard Work
German Shepherds like working hard and being stimulated. Staying on alert is their jam, so to speak.
In the late 1800s, the dogs were bred and trained as working dogs. The founder of the German Shepherd Association, or the German SV, Max von Stephanitz, had the idea “to develop a capable, secure and even-tempered dog.”
The dogs are highly adaptable to their working environment.
